Why do I need a website as an Author? Isn't social media enough?
No matter if you are traditionally published, self-published or “not-yet-published”, you need an Author Website. Social media platforms are a great start, but you don’t own them, they come and go with fads, they could disappear any day, and algorithms are making it harder and harder to get seen. From personal experience, I've learned that having a great Author Website (and a Newsletter through that website!) is the best and most effective way to create a central hub for your platform, show professionalism to others in the book-industry, and convert book lovers and writers into committed and engaged fans!
How important is it for an UNPUBLISHED author to have a website?
In my opinion, if you're serious about becoming a published author, creating your author website BEFORE your book is published in the best thing you can do! I've had my website for a year now as a "not-yet" published author, and I already have over 1500 subscribers for my newsletter excited for when my book comes out! In this course I share with you all the ways I use my author website to engage potential readers in order to build connection and drive book sales down the line.
Why do you use Wix.com to create websites?
Wix is affordable, user-friendly (totally drag-and-drop, NO HTML or coding!), fully customizable, easy to maintain, and also includes a built-in Email Marketing system – all of which I personally use and love! See www.authorbrittanywang.com for reference.
Do I have to pay a separate fee to have a Wix website?
Having a website always includes yearly hosting and domain charges. With Wix.com you can create your site for FREE! (AKA: You don't have to pay Wix anything while I create your website! ) When you are ready to LAUNCH your website to the public, you have 2 OPTIONS: OPTION 1. Launch for FREE: That's right! You can keep your website absolutely free as long as you are ok with a small Wix ad at the top of your website & using their free domain URL ( which will look something like this: brittanywang.wixsite.com/author ). OR OPTION 2. You can Upgrade: If you would like to connect a custom domain and get rid of Wix ads when you launch of your website, you must upgrade to a yearly package. Visit Wix.com to read more about their prices. I do not own Wix and their prices can change at any time. What you pay today only covers this course.
What if I'm already paying for a different web development platform (Wordpress, Squarespace, etc..)?
If you already have a website with different web development platform that you are currently paying for (let's say Wordpress) but you don't like it and want to switch to Wix.com, this is what I usually suggest. After you take this course and create the website of your dreams for free with Wix.com, I would change your Wordpress website to a simple landing page that say something like "Enter My Website Here" with a button that sends the viewer to your free Wix website. When your Wordpress premium plan expires, cancel your plan there and transfer your author website domain to your Wix website when you upgrade to a premium account.
